The Heart Behind LAHMBs
Our journey began with a simple observation: every parent deserves to feel seen, and every baby deserves a safe start. What started as a small group of volunteers has grown into a dedicated community of support, providing the essentials and dignity that families in need truly require.
HOW IT STARTED
LAHMBs was founded in 2009 by two women who recognized a critical gap in their community: the lack of basic support for parenting teens. Julie and Monica were each approached—separately—by a young mother in need of clothing and essential supplies for her unborn child. As mothers themselves, they could not imagine facing pregnancy without the ability to provide even the most basic necessities to keep a child safe and comfortable.
Through faith and shared compassion, the Lord brought these two women together, and the vision for LAHMBs was born—creating a pathway of support for families in need.
Rooted in deep compassion, LAHMBs has grown tremendously over the years. What began in a small church garage has expanded into more than 900 square feet of dedicated space. Through word of mouth, LAHMBs has built strong relationships with over 20 local organizations serving families throughout the community.
In 2014, LAHMBs became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, opening the door to even greater community partnerships. By collaborating with other local nonprofits, LAHMBs has expanded its reach and continues to support families throughout Dauphin County and surrounding counties.
WHAT WE DO
Through the generosity of donors, LAHMBs collects new and gently used items to support the care, safety, and comfort of infants and children. Families are served through their social worker or case manager, who coordinate and collect needed items on their behalf. Dedicated volunteers sort, organize, and package donations weekly to ensure families receive the essentials they need with dignity and care.
